Why shop here? Why Our Mugs Are Different?

Built To Last. Printed To Survive.

Every RudeCuppa mug is sublimation printed — not stickered, not stamped, not sprayed on. The design becomes part of the ceramic itself, so it survives the dishwasher, the microwave and years of daily use without fading, peeling or washing off.

The Science Bit

How Sublimation Printing Actually Works

Cheap mugs use a decal or a spray coat sitting on TOP of the ceramic. Ours doesn’t. During sublimation, our specialist inks are turned into a gas under heat and pressure. That gas passes into the mug’s coating and bonds at a molecular level, permanently, before the mug cools and the pores close again. The print isn’t on the mug. It is the mug.

1. Ink Becomes Gas

Our sublimation inks are heated to around 200°C. At that temperature they skip the liquid stage entirely and turn straight into a gas — ready to bond with the mug’s coating.

2. It Bonds, Not Sits

Heat and pressure open the pores in the mug’s polymer coating. The ink gas passes inside and locks into the ceramic surface itself — not stuck on top of it.

3. Permanent, Not Painted

As the mug cools, the pores close and seal the ink inside. There’s nothing left on the surface to chip, peel, or scratch off — it’s part of the mug now.

Sublimation vs. Everything Else

Loads of cheap mugs look fine in the box. It’s what happens after the first wash that tells you the truth. Here’s how the printing methods actually compare.

Why We Pay More To Print Properly

Sublimation printing costs more than basic decal or screen printing — the equipment, the specialist inks, and the process itself all take longer and cost more to run. We think it’s worth it. Here’s what that extra cost actually buys you.

🍽️

Genuinely Dishwasher Safe

No hand-washing rules, no faded designs after a few cycles. Chuck it in the dishwasher like any other mug — the print isn’t going anywhere.

πŸ”₯

Microwave Safe

Reheat your brew without worrying about the design cracking, bubbling or lifting off the surface.

Colours That Actually Last

Because the ink is sealed into the ceramic, colours stay vivid for years instead of fading, greying, or going patchy.

πŸ‘Œ

Smooth, Not Sticky

Run your finger over the design and you won’t feel a raised sticker or rough edge — it’s completely flush with the mug.

Good To Know

Sublimation Printing FAQs

The quick answers to the questions everyone asks about how our mugs are made.

Yes. Because the design is sublimation printed into the ceramic coating itself, it holds up to repeated dishwasher cycles without fading or peeling — unlike decal or vinyl mugs, which are hand-wash only.

Yes. Sublimated designs are microwave safe, so you can reheat your tea or coffee without any risk to the print.

Most budget mugs use a decal, sticker, or basic screen print that sits on top of the surface rather than bonding with it. Heat, water, and everyday scrubbing gradually lift or wear that layer away.

Sublimation needs specialist inks, heat presses, and a slower, more controlled process than basic printing methods. It costs more to produce, but the result is a mug that actually lasts.

No. Because the ink is sealed inside the ceramic coating rather than sitting on the surface, everyday use — spoons, cutlery, scourers — won’t scratch or chip the design away.
